We conducted an important educational session as part of World Tuberculosis Awareness Day. This guest lecture, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, was designed to deepen the understanding of nursing students about the Tuberculosis Control Programme. Commemorating World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 each year highlights the ongoing efforts to increase both public and political engagement in combating this infectious disease that remains a significant health threat globally.

The theme chosen for 2024, “Yes! We can END TB,” reflects a proactive and optimistic approach, advocating for global unity in the fight against tuberculosis. The program began with a devotional song, creating a reflective atmosphere for the attendees. Prof. Gomathi K. from Sree Abirami College of Nursing warmly greeted all participants at the start.

The event featured a detailed lecture by Mrs. Thenmozhi, B.Pharm, MBA, the District Program Coordinator for Tuberculosis, under the District Health Services in Coimbatore. Introduced by Dr. Arvin Babu, the Administrative Dean, and Dr. Renuka, the Principal, Mrs. Thenmozhi brought valuable insights from her extensive experience in tuberculosis management.

During her session, Mrs. Thenmozhi discussed several important aspects:

– An introduction to tuberculosis, its significant impact in regions like Tamil Nadu and the broader Indian context.

– A thorough exploration of the transmission methods, symptoms, and signs associated with tuberculosis, which is crucial for early detection and treatment.

– Current diagnostic techniques and the role of vaccinations in prevention strategies.

– Comprehensive strategies on managing, controlling, and aiming to eradicate tuberculosis through effective public health policies and practices.

The lecture was interactive, encouraging students to discuss and engage deeply with the topic. In recognition of her contributions, Mrs. Thenmozhi was honored with a memento from Dr. Renuka.

The session concluded with expressions of gratitude by Mrs. Synthia, MSc (N), Assistant Professor at the college, and the rendition of the National Anthem, which brought the educational event to a dignified close.
