WORLD HEALTH DAY – SREE ABIRAMI COLLEGE OF NURSING, COIMBATORE – 21 , 2025

On April 7, 2025, the Department of Mental Health Nursing at Sree Abirami College of Nursing, Coimbatore, hosted a vibrant and meaningful celebration of World Health Day 2025 in the college’s nursing auditorium at 3:00 PM. The event, centered around the theme “Healthy Being, Hopeful Futures,” aimed to inspire students and faculty to prioritize mental and physical well-being while fostering hope and resilience in shaping a healthier tomorrow. The theme resonated deeply with the institution’s commitment to holistic healthcare education, emphasizing the interconnectedness of mental health, optimism, and community well-being.

To commemorate the occasion, the department organized an engaging elocution competition titled *Echoes of Change*, designed to encourage students to articulate their thoughts on health, hope, and societal transformation. The competition welcomed participants from diverse disciplines, including Nursing, Allied Health Sciences (AHS), Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, showcasing the college’s interdisciplinary ethos. The event was conducted in both Tamil and English to ensure inclusivity and accessibility, attracting a robust participation of 21 students in English and 17 in Tamil.

The day began with a planned preliminary selection round in the morning, where participants delivered compelling speeches on topics aligned with the theme. The judging panel, comprising esteemed faculty members from the five constituent colleges under Sree Abirami Institutions, evaluated the students based on content, clarity, and impact. From the preliminary round, ten students—five in Tamil and five in English—were shortlisted for the final competition held in the afternoon. The finalists captivated the audience with their eloquence, addressing critical issues such as mental health awareness, preventive healthcare, and the role of youth in building hopeful futures.

The final elocution competition was a highlight of the day, with participants demonstrating remarkable poise and passion. The judges, selected for their expertise and impartiality, meticulously assessed each performance. In the Tamil category, Mrs. Reni Preetha, a third-semester B.Sc. Nursing student clinched the first prize with her stirring speech, while Mrs. Haripriya, a fifth-semester B.Sc. Nursing student secured the second prize. In the English category, Mrs. Nehna Mehran, a B.Sc. Nursing student, won the first prize, and Mr. John David Katta, a first-year Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) student, took the second prize. The winners were lauded for their insightful perspectives and confident delivery.

The event concluded on a high note with a prize distribution ceremony graced by Dr. Renuka, Principal of Sree Abirami College of Nursing, and Dr. Jayabharathi, Dean. Their presence underscored the institution’s dedication to fostering academic and personal growth among students. The dignitaries commended the participants for their enthusiasm and congratulated the winners, emphasizing the importance of such platforms in nurturing future healthcare leaders. The ceremony was followed by a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the organizing team, judges, and participants.

The World Health Day 2025 celebration at Sree Abirami College of Nursing was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the college community. The Echoes of Change elocution competition not only highlighted the students’talent and potential but also reinforced the significance of health, hope, and collective action in shaping a brighter future.
