Title: BLS and ACLS Program – Hands-On Training at Sree Abirami College of Allied Health Sciences

On January 29, 2024, Monday, Sree Abirami College of Allied Health Sciences hosted a dynamic Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) program. The event, featuring engaging hands-on training, aimed to empower future healthcare professionals with life-saving skills. Distinguished guest speakers Prof. Krishna Kumar and Mr. Abdul Kadar led the session, with an agenda covering essential aspects of BLS and ACLS.

The program kicked off with an introduction to BLS, setting the stage for an immersive learning experience. Prof. Krishna Kumar, an Associate Professor at KG Hospital, Coimbatore, shared valuable insights into trauma and critical care. Mr. Abdul Kadar, Chief Respiratory Therapist at KG Hospital, enriched the session with his expertise in healthcare.

The agenda included a comprehensive range of topics:

  1. Single Rescuer BLS: Detailed instructions and practical demonstrations for solo rescue scenarios.
  2. Two Rescuer CPR and AED Training: Exploring the dynamics of CPR with two rescuers and integrating AED training.
  3. Multi-Rescuer CPR/Team Dynamics: Focusing on coordination and collaboration in multi-rescuer scenarios.
  4. Child/Infant CPR: Tailoring life-saving techniques for pediatric patients.
  5. Introduction to ACLS and System of Care: A comprehensive overview of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and the associated healthcare system.
  6. Tachyarrhythmia and Bradyarrhythmia Management: Identification and management of rapid and slow heart rhythms.
  7. Cardiac Arrest Algorithms: Understanding and applying algorithms for effective response to cardiac arrest situations.
  8. ACLS Megacode Practice: Engaging in practical simulations to reinforce ACLS skills.

The event saw the participation of Dr. Senthil, one of the board of directors members, Dean Dr. Aravin Babu, and Dr. Jayabharathi, Dean of Academics, adding prestige and support to the program. The combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application ensured that all students benefitted significantly from the hands-on training.
