World Glaucoma Day: A Vision for a Brighter Future
Date: 28.03.2025
“The world is bright; let us save our light.”
Glaucoma, often called the “silent thief of sight,” affects millions worldwide, gradually stealing vision without warning. Recognizing the urgency of raising awareness, Sree Abirami College of Physiotherapy, under the guidance of our Principal, Dr. Guhan PT, organized a special event for World Glaucoma Day at the SACOPT Auditorium. This gathering brought together students, faculty, and medical experts to unite against preventable blindness.
A Grand Beginning
The event commenced at 10 AM with an inspirational prayer song, setting a tone of hope and unity. This was followed by a warm welcome address, where the organizing team extended their heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished guests, faculty members, and students, emphasizing the importance of education and awareness in preventing glaucoma.
Special Address & Chief Guest Speech
The highlight of the event was the address by our chief guest, Dr. Mahalakshmi Nair, a highly accomplished ophthalmologist. With extensive experience in glaucoma and cataract treatment, she shared valuable insights on early detection, treatment advancements, and the significance of regular eye check-ups. Her inspiring words reinforced the message that awareness and timely intervention can save countless people from vision loss.
Interactive Session & Felicitation
An engaging Q&A session allowed students and attendees to clarify doubts and gain deeper knowledge about glaucoma. The event also included a felicitation ceremony, where Dr. Mahalakshmi Nair was honored with a memento as a token of appreciation for her invaluable contributions to ophthalmology and public awareness.
A Heartfelt Conclusion
As the event drew to a close at 11 AM, a vote of thanks was delivered, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to making this program a success. The program ended with the national anthem, signifying unity in the fight against preventable blindness.
A Call to Action
World Glaucoma Day is not just a day of discussion but a reminder that awareness, early detection, and regular eye check-ups can prevent blindness. Together, we can protect the gift of sight and build a future where no one suffers from preventable vision loss.
Let’s spread the word, take action, and save our light!
