63rd National Pharmacy Week Celebrations – 2024

Sree Abirami College of Pharmacy, Coimbatore, celebrated the 63rd National Pharmacy Week (NPW) from December 1 to December 5, 2024, with great enthusiasm and purpose. This year’s celebration was aimed at emphasizing the vital role pharmacists play in healthcare and promoting community outreach, student development, and professional growth. The entire event was planned and executed by the faculty and students of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacology, with strong support from the college management.


🩺 Day 1 – Free Health Check-Up Camp (December 1, 2024)

The NPW celebrations commenced with a Free Health Check-Up Camp organized at Kurchi Lake, Sundarapuram, Coimbatore. The camp was inaugurated by the esteemed Chairman of Sree Abirami Institutions, Dr. P. Periyaswamy, MS, MCh (Urology). The initiative reflected the institution’s commitment to public health and community welfare.

From 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM, the serene lakeside turned into a bustling health camp, where more than 50 volunteers—including Pharm D, B.Pharm, and D.Pharm students alongside faculty—provided essential healthcare services to the local community.

  • Blood Pressure (BP) Monitoring
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculation
  • SpO₂ and Haemoglobin Level Checks
  • Blood Sugar and Pulse Rate Testing
  • Comprehensive Medication Counselling

More than 250 residents benefited from the camp, receiving not only health checks but also professional guidance on medication use, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle practices. The event served as a hands-on experience for students and a compassionate outreach to the community.


🎓 Day 2 to 5 – Academic & Cultural Celebrations (December 2 – 5, 2024)

The formal inauguration ceremony of the 63rd NPW took place on December 2, 2024, at the Sree Abirami College of Pharmacy auditorium. The ceremony was graced by the Chairman, Board of Directors, the Dean, the Principal of the College of Pharmacy, and Principals from sister institutions under the Sree Abirami umbrella.

In his inaugural address, the Chairman emphasized the ever-growing role of pharmacists in preventive healthcare, patient safety, and evidence-based drug use. He also congratulated the organizing team for bringing together a meaningful blend of education, service, and celebration.


🏅 Week-long Events and Student Participation

Throughout the week, the college campus was alive with vibrant academic, sports, and cultural activities, fostering team spirit and showcasing student talent. Over 500 students from various pharmacy programs took part in competitions, sports matches, debates, and cultural events.

Highlights included:

  • Quiz & Debate Competitions on pharmaceutical topics
  • Poster Presentations by students on current pharmacy trends
  • Inter-class Cricket, Volleyball, and Carrom tournaments
  • Dance, Music, and Drama showcasing health-related themes

These activities provided a refreshing balance to academics and encouraged creativity, leadership, and collaboration among students.


🏆 Valedictory Function (December 5, 2024)

The grand Valedictory Function held on December 5, 2024, brought the week-long celebration to a close. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various competitions. Student representatives shared their experiences and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom.

In his closing remarks, the Principal, Dr. S. Jeevanandham, applauded the students’ active involvement and the faculty’s dedication. He emphasized how events like NPW bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
