๐ญ Sree Abirami College of Nursing Marks World No Tobacco Day 2025 with Mass Awareness Program
Sree Abirami College of Nursing continues to lead the way in community health promotion and preventive education. In observance of World No Tobacco Day 2025, the IV Year B.Sc. Nursing students organized a Mass Awareness Program at Sree Abirami Hospital, drawing attention to the ongoing public health threat posed by tobacco use and the deceptive tactics of the tobacco industry.
This yearโs global theme โ “Unmasking the Appeal” โ focused on exposing the aggressive and manipulative marketing strategies employed by the tobacco industry, particularly those that target young people. The students of Sree Abirami College of Nursing embraced this theme with energy, empathy, and educational precision.
Role Play: Unmasking the Reality
To bring the message to life, the students delivered a thought-provoking and impactful role play that captivated the audience and drove home critical messages about tobacco and its dangers.
The performance highlighted:
- How tobacco companies target youth through social media, peer influence, and lifestyle advertising
- The severe physical and mental health effects of tobacco use โ including respiratory illness, cancer, cardiovascular disease, anxiety, and depression
- Warning signs of tobacco addiction such as withdrawal symptoms, mood changes, and dependency
- Effective treatment options available today โ from behavioral therapy to nicotine replacement and counseling
- A motivational message to begin 2025 smoke-free, embracing a healthier life for oneself and loved ones
The role play was met with enthusiastic applause and sparked conversations among the attendees. It served not only to educate but also to emotionally connect with the audience through storytelling and relatable scenarios.
Audience Engagement and Impact
Approximately 35 individuals from the hospital โ including patients, caregivers, visitors, and staff โ participated in the session. Many attendees shared that the program helped them reflect on their habits or encouraged them to start conversations with family members who use tobacco.
The interactive nature of the event fostered a supportive environment where questions were welcomed, misconceptions were addressed, and resources for quitting were discussed.
Support from the Institution
The program would not have been possible without the continuous encouragement and guidance from the Principal, Vice Principal, and the management of Sree Abirami College of Nursing. Their strong belief in student-led public health initiatives made this awareness drive both meaningful and successful.
Their support reflects the institutionโs mission to not only train skilled nurses but also empower them as community health advocates who bring about real change in society.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
For the nursing students, this event was much more than a scheduled activity โ it was a real-world experience in public health education. They learned how to translate textbook knowledge into effective communication, adapt health messages for diverse audiences, and use creativity to inspire behavioral change.
Participating in such events enhances their confidence and prepares them for a future where they play key roles not only in hospitals but also in communities โ as educators, leaders, and changemakers.
A Step Toward a Smoke-Free Tomorrow
Sree Abirami College of Nursing is proud of the dedication shown by its final-year students. Their initiative is a reminder that awareness is the first step to prevention, and through such outreach programs, the institution continues to contribute to the larger mission of a healthier, smoke-free India.
We congratulate the students on their thoughtful presentation and thank all participants for their active engagement. Letโs continue to unmask the dangers of tobacco and work together toward a better tomorrow.
